How to prep your Inground Pool for closing during the Fall and Winter Season

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

Next, you must lower the water just below the returns. In order to lower the pool, you must turn the filer valve to waste. Once that is completed you must take the return jets out and plug the returns. Then you go back to the filter and if your pool has a automatic timer, you must remove them by simply unscrewing them. Furthermore, you will then go to your motor for the pool and unscrew the two plugs in order to drain the remaining water from the motor.

The first step would be to remove the pool vacuum from the pool if you have one. Then the ladders around the pool have to be taken out as well for the cover to fit correctly. The ladder is in a cupeling that is tightened and loosened with a 1/2 socket.

The following steps can be daunting, but with guidance, you will be a pro at closing your pool! In order to get the remaining water out of the drains you must hook up a air compressor to your motor with a nipple where the plug goes. Once all the water is out of the pipes you must close all the valves. The valves will look like "|" when opened and "+" when closed. Next, about a gallon of antifreeze should be added to the skimmers so if any water gets through, the water will mix with it and not freeze. The last step for the skimmers would be to take gizmo, put teflon tape and screw it into the skimmer hole.

Finally the last two steps to closing your in ground pool. Ensuing that the end is near, you must create an air lock in your main drain. To achieve this the air compressor must be turned back on and valve to the main drain shut as the air is going through. The last step in closing your pool would be to drain your filter. This is done by removing the plug at the bottom. Now all that needs to be done is to put the cover on which is very easy and can be done by two people.
